Container living unit

BRIEF:

I was required to design a living unit for back packers using an existing container.

Accommodation must provide:

• sleeping area

• Small self-catering area

• Area to relax

• Small bathroom, Shower, Wc & Whb. Sewer connection will be provided.

AIM

The aim of the assignment:

• Experiment with a standard container.

• Gain knowledge of various insulation materials and methods.

• Comply with SANS10400 PartXA: Insulation of floor, walls and roof. Fenestration and heating of water. Energy usage.

• Passive cooling methods: Use cool air below the building to cool interior.

• Heating in winter must be included in your proposal. Special window components may be designed to capture heat.
